Dear Church Family:
As concerns over the coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to escalate, on March 10th, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency for our county in an effort to slow the potential spread of COVID-19. Contra Costa Health Services and our Governor also issued a notice for “social distancing” that recommended mass gatherings of over 50 people be suspended.
Our leaders met last night (March 11th) to discuss and pray about these declarations, your safety, and what this means for us as a church. It is our greatest desire to honor our Lord and honor you in this process which is why we unanimously voted to NOT PHYSICALLY MEET ON SUNDAYS in order to minimize the risk of spreading the virus. In lieu of this temporary change, we will gather online each week and will keep you updated with any changes to this plan. As further confirmation of this prayerful decision we received notification just this morning from our school district that they have cancelled all public use of school facilities through the end of March.
We will continue to find new ways to connect with you on a regular basis because we believe deeply in having a church home that is not limited to specific locations and times. This not only presents new challenges but exciting opportunities to be the church as we continue to trust our Lord for wisdom and guidance in the weeks ahead.
Here are some ways we desire to connect with you…
- Keep worshipping with us and listening to our messages each week online! We will be communicating various ways you can connect with your church family, but our deepest desire is to be regularly sharing with you and being a part of each other’s lives. Our regular online gatherings will include worship, teaching, prayer and announcements. Updates will be posted every weekend on our church app, website and through social media.
- We still want to be personally connected with you! Please reach out to us with any prayer needs, concerns, questions or if you just want to talk and pray with one of our staff or Session leaders. Send your prayer needs to email@example.com or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through our app and a member of our leadership team will personally respond in a timely manner. Also, let us know if you want to hear from a specific leader. We are available!
- Our downtown offices are closed until Shelter in Place has been lifted.
Lastly, finances will continue to be a stretch during this time as expenses are ongoing. Since we will not be meeting on Sundays, please continue to give regularly through our website or church app. You can also reach us by mail or simply drop off your tithes and offerings at the church offices—we would love to see you!
We have the right people in the right places right now for this. It’s not something from which we can shy away. We need to lean into this opportunity. We are excited about the online gatherings that we will be broadcasting every week, it’s preparing us for when we gather in person and online week in and week out in the new building. We love the level of excellence desired for this challenging season.
To God Be the Glory—
Pastors Shawn and Ron
